What is your experience in the wedding industry:
I’ve been in the industry on and off since I started working at the age of 17. More recently for just under 6 years I have been the events coordinator and then Events Manager at Buckland Hall, which is where I have gained a lot of experience. I’ve planned and coordinated over 200 weddings in this time and lots of retreats on top, I absolutely love being part of it all! During this time I have made some amazing contacts, seen some stunning events and learnt a lot! Its an industry of being prepared for anything – and I have seen my fair share of that over the years. Every single Wedding I have been apart of has been totally different and that’s what I love most about it. The smiles, the tears, meeting the family and friends, its amazingly rewarding to be a part of.
Where are you based and which areas you cover:
I am based out of Brecon, with a great network of suppliers across South, West and Mid Wales. But I am open to travelling. My aim is to grow my network across the country one day (that’s the ‘big’ goal anyway!). I mean if someone want’s help planning a gorgeous destination wedding to the Caribbean… I’m not going to say no! I love to travel and explore new places – I am excited to be able to travel with my job as well.
How would you describe the service you offer:
My feel is bespoke and very personal. Some people can be nervous of working with a wedding planner, a fear of loosing control of their big day by a stranger taking over. I supposed what I offer is better to think of as a ‘professional bridesmaid’ .. although I need to come up with a better term than that! – I don’t mean I’ll put a fancy outfit on and walk you down the aisle. But I am there to support you, to listen and interpret your ideas into exactly what you want, at the same time with your budget in mind. My style is very relaxed and informal. I am the type of person who will happily sit on the floor, chat over coffee, really take my time get to know you as a couple.
On the wedding day I will be there to ensure everything is perfect, but I will very much keep in the background – allowing you to totally relax and enjoy the day with friends and family – leave any worries to me! The other area of my service is in styling and design. There are so many beautiful designs and images out on the internet – but where do you even start when it comes to making it happen. I love to source items, research themes and pull everything together for you.
If there was one piece of advice you could give to couples getting married, regarding the planning of their wedding, what would it be:
Book me! Hehe. I would say always remember it is your day. Having others help is always great but sometimes too many opinions can cloud your vision and all you do is worry about making everyone else happy. Always remember what the day is about, the rest is just extra. That’s something I am passionate about. Finding out what you really want, not what everyone ‘expects’.
When do you know you need to hire a wedding planner?
This is personal to each couple and not everyone needs a planner. Its all down to time. Weddings take A LOT of organising. From being the Events Manager at a venue I meet with so many couples who just can’t wait to get to their day so they don’t have to keep going over and over the details. Or they are doing well but got totally stuck and don’t know who to ask. I read a statistic that it takes on average 250 hours to plan a wedding – that’s nearly 2 months of full-time work, and not everyone has this time and that doesn’t include putting all the little extras together, spending hours decorating the night before and then having to worry how everything will flow on the day.
You have hired a wedding planner: now what? Expectations
So you find me online, meet me at a wedding fayre or maybe it’s a recommendation. The first step is to meet. I always like to meet couples face to face first (or if this is not possible via a skype or something). This is the complimentary consultation where I really get to know you, make sure I am a good match for you. I find out your ideas and where you are with planning – whether this be the start, middle or end. We can discuss your theme/colours/suppliers and how you imagine the day. Following this I put together your proposal – a detailed document explaining exactly what I offer, what services I will provide you and of course the cost. I am always upfront with cost, there are no extras, no meeting limits, no set number of calls or emails – once you book with me I am yours to help – in whatever time it takes.
And then we go from there! All stress free planning! I have as much or as little involvement you want me to – Its all about what you want.
How to make the best of your wedding planner?
The biggest bit of advice I would give is to be honest. Choose me because you think we suit and you like the way I work – not because you like a picture of something I put on Instagram. When working with a planner hopefully you love everything – but never be afraid to say no, that’s not quite your thing or the wedding won’t be yours. And then that isn’t the point of working with a planner. I am here to work out what it is you want, to make it happen and navigate you around this whole wedding industry (which can often be very confusing!)
