An intimate wedding at Tree Top Escape in North Devon

The wedding of Adam and Kathryn was going to be our 2nd wedding of the year in 2020. Covid19 hit the world and theirs and all our other weddings got postponed to later dates, mostly for 2021. A few of our couples decided to still get married in 2020 though, among which also Adam and Kathryn! They had the most intimate wedding we have ever been a part of and a very magical one it has been indeed. We cannot wait to show you some of their photos below! Thanks to the fact that it was a very small wedding we had around 1h available just for the couple photos and video. We were therefore able to take our time to explore and enjoy the beautiful landscape around their chosen venue in North Devon. This happens rarely in wedding photography so we truly, truly made the most of it, capturing the couple in as many picturesque parts of the venue as possible. But I better let them tell you a little bit about their plans and thoughts around their choice to still get married in 2020.

THE STORY

“Our original wedding was planned on 4th April 2020 with over 120 guests. It became pretty apparent a couple of weeks before the big day that this wouldn’t be possible. It was heartbreaking to get so close but through all the other uncertainty, we were both certain that we wanted to try everything possible to get married this year and not delay the rest of our lives. We figured the best way to ensure this was to scale down our plans right away and so we ended up switching to a smaller elopement style venue. We felt this way we could still have a special wedding day to look back on and incorporate some of the elements we had already planned.

THE VENUE

We’d remembered coming across the stunning Tree Top Escape in North Devon from our original venue search but due to the limited capacity size had to sadly disregard it. Now we were only going to have 12 of us in total it was a perfect fit for us. As luck would have it, they had availability in October half term (important to us as Adam is a teacher) so we went for it without even seeing it in person and fortunately never had to look back.

THOUGHTS AFTER THE DAY

The day turned out so much more beautiful than we could have hoped for and we think that is largely thanks to it being a more intimate day. The smaller venue meant the amazing floral arrangements and styling from our very talented florist, Jenny Fleur, went a really long way. Having fewer guests meant we could spend much longer getting couple photos and shots for our wedding video. During this time we could take our time to explore the lovely woodland areas and lakes which was a real highlight of our day. We even had time to feed alpacas!
