A rustic wedding at the Haybarn in Herefordshire – I really couldn’t wait until the blogging season started to have a bit of time to share beautiful weddings like this one!
Ed & Melissa shared a little bit of their wedding planning and organising process with me. I hope this will come in handy for other couples out there looking to book the Haybarn as their wedding venue.

When planning your wedding, how did you go about choosing a venue that would fit your style?
“Coming from farming families we always wanted a local, country, rustic style wedding. We looked at one venue and knew straight away that we wanted our wedding reception there, the Haybarn! The barns country charm and the grounds were amazing for socialising with our guests. It also offered lots of space for playing lawn games as well as for guests who wanted a quiet area. The Haybarn also provided accommodation which was a big tick when looking at venues as we wanted to stay onsite on our wedding night.”
Tell me about your decor & colour choices
“I originally thought pastel colours, pinks, greens and blues. We did all of the set up ourselves and my brilliant Mum did our flowers with some help from some very helpful friends! We ended up using lots of pinks and greenery, along with garden flowers which added a pop of colour. I did a lot of research on Pinterest and general online scrolling which provided me with some brilliant ideas along with my flower crown!”
How did you make your wedding personal to you both?
“The most personal element to us was to be able to spend our wedding day with our friends and family. Having a local wedding meant that our Grandparents (in their 90’s) could come to our day and pop home when they needed. Good food was a priority and we are lucky enough to know the brilliant Laura from The Tidy Kitchen – she made our day extra amazing with her delicious food!
Music was also very important to us! In the daytime we had Jim Ramsey doing a set whilst our guests arrived and enjoyed drinks and canapes. In the evening, our band The Cousins Cover Band got everyone up dancing!
And of course, capturing our day in the most relaxed yet professional way, our photographer Cat from Cat Beardsley Photography. Cat was amazing from start to finish, she made us feel so comfortable all day! As a result, we have amazing photos to cherish forever!”
Do you have any advice for future couples on choosing their photographer?
“The first thing you look at when choosing a photographer is their portfolio of other weddings. When seeing Cat’s I was so impressed! The balance of natural and intimate/bridal party photos was just what we wanted. It was important for us to get the classic Bride & Groom, Bridesmaids, Groomsmen photos but we also love the natural photos of our guests enjoying the day. Cat was so calm (even when we weren’t)! She got all of the photos we wanted plus more, we can’t thank her enough!
A lot of people said to us that the day will go so fast and it really does! Our advice is to enjoy every second, spend time with your favourite people, eat the food, dance and have fun!”
